"The next spec for arena pvp shamans is the Restoration spec. Although this spec for shamans is not largely popular in arena play, it is still used on several top teams, including “We Lose Cause Daorok Sux”, the recent champions of Blizzards official season 1 5v5 world finals. Because of this, restoration shamans in 5v5 play especially, have grown. They still are by no means the preferred healers for most, and there are several reason in why this would be the case. In 3v3 and 2v2 arena though, restoration shamans are the preferred spec for shamans interestingly enough. According to geekboys.org, restoration shamans make up more than 90% of 2v2 and 3v3 teams with a shaman. They are also a lot more popular in these brackets on top teams because of the great support they still bring, while also being great healers if played right and matched up right. This article will look into the arena scene with restoration specced shamans and there benefits and lacking compared to others. Shamans have always been great healers for PvE content, but pvp it has lacked a bit. No instant heals other than Nature’s Swiftness and no Heal over Times (HoT’s), made healing in pvp a struggle for most shamans pre-bc. With the release of BC however, came new talents which improved the restoration shaman significantly. The first talent they introduced was Nature’s Guardian, which has nothing to do with making the shamans heals stronger, but improving the survivability of a restoration shaman by a large amount. The other strong talent of course was Earth Shield, which is probably one of the most powerful healing tools in the game IF it cannot be dispelled. That is where the big problem comes in however, the word dispel. With all heals being casted, the only healer to do so, any form of CC or interruption can hurt a restoration shaman.
Even a paladin has a instant heal every 15 seconds, and not to mention that immunity heal for 10 seconds if not mass dispelled. The only other instant heal other than the NS heal, is of course the earthen shield. The earthen shield, like stated before, is arguably the best form of a heal any healer can do in pvp, only if it cannot be dispelled though. For this reason alone, it is probably a safe bet why shamans aren’t seen more in the 5v5 scene like they are in 2v2 and 3v3. Simply because in 2v2 and 3v3, there is a lot less chance to face a class who has an offensive dispel, and even if there is, there is usually one less dps on the focus target to ease up healing for a solo healer. While we are on the topic of dispel, that brings up the point of no dispel for a shaman. Having no defensive dispel is killer for restoration shamans and can make their job very frustrating. The use of well played and timed totems and/or Earth Shocks, can makeup for the lack of a defensive dispel. Team support also plays a huge role here, and with that support, having no defensive dispel wont matter nearly as much. So far, its basically been stating how shamans have no instant heals other than NS heal, have no heal over times, and the one great heal shamans do have can be dispelled very easily. So why are restoration shamans still used on some of the top 2v2, 3v3 and even 5v5 teams in the world. wow gold The role of a restoration shaman can be seen as perhaps the most offensive pvp healer in the game, and this is why they can be used well in lineups. Although it can be tough and perhaps harder to play right than any other, if played right they can always make the other teams healers play defensive with assisting its own dps significantly.
Such spells that make a restoration shaman offensive are the use of purge, earth shock interrupts, and totems to increase damage done from your dps depending on the class makeup. wow gold If the restoration shaman and his team have the opponents playing defensively right away, they have already won half the battle for their team. Not only does it help the dps burst down a focus target, but it will also help free up the shaman to freely cast his heals and even get a couple “ticks” from his earth shield in before it may be dispelled. So for what the restoration lacks in, he makes up for with playing a lot more offensively then any other heal to help support his team to victory. A big part why we don’t see more restoration shamans in reality, is that it is a lot harder to not only find a well played one, but that restoration shaman needs great support from his team as well. world of warcraft gold So many teams just find it easier using the “cookie-cutter” lineup, with a paladin/priest healer, that most just run with that. This is not a stab at any team that does use such a lineup, because even the very team I am on uses these same two healers, but its more so an opening to try a restoration shaman in the lineup. Such a healer can bring a lot of versatility to a team, and can make games more fun with such an offensive style a play. wow gold Replacing an elemental shaman with a restoration shaman can also free up that elemental shaman spot to be replaced by another dps caster, such as a mage or warlock, or even a hunter. So if your style of play for a shaman is restoration, stick with it, as they are not only growing in the arena scene, but they are also the best offensive healer in the game. " "Adding another one to the Rogue and Holy Priest series, we start with the juicy strategies on how to win against some of the hardest match ups. Starting off with Soul-linked Warlock and Druid, this 2v2 combo brings fear to many teams. First of all it is nearly impossible to outlast them. mp3 player With the Warlock being the only spell caster with unlimited mana, and Druid the most mobile of the healers, they definitely benefit from many aspects of the arena game. With a pet on Warlock’s side, they can easily prevent most healers from going out of combat and drinking. To make things simple, we can summarize the goal of this 2v2 lineup is to outlasting their opponents to victory. wow gold It would seem as all odds are stacked in their favorite. While this is not the hardest fight, a well played Warlock & Druid can definitely take ton of your precious points away.
